I got pulled over in Belgrade, MT going 32 in a 25. The cop looked like he was about 19 years old. He gave me a ticket for speeding. Because I had an out of state license (California), I was told that I needed to pay immediately in cash or go to jail. (The ticket was only $20). This really reminded me of my trips to Tijuana. I couldn’t believe that the Belgrade cop was asking for my money. He said he could follow me to an ATM. At this point I was getting really upset. My friend who was ridding up front noticed how upset I was getting handed the cop a $20 bill.
I decided to call the Belgrade police station the next day to see if the cop had processed the ticket. I called the police station the next day (a Sunday) and it went straight to an answering service. The lady on the other end of the phone said that although the Police Station was closed, there were officers on duty. I vowed to call again later but never ended up doing it.
Well 8 months later I decided to get some new car insurance. I went to AAA auto insurance in Bozeman, MT and got a new insurance policy. The funny thing that happened was that when my driving record was pulled, it showed a ticket for driving to slow rather than a speeding ticket! I couldn’t believe it. Is this better than a speeding ticket? It did raise my insurance by $35. Did the cop put my ticket in as slow driving to help me or did he do it to so he could keep the money? If someone knows, please let me know.
Thanks
